犬丸 暁 （アーティスト）
-「死の舞踏」を刻む中庭で
私の名前は犬丸暁。アーティストです。フランスのルーアンに住んでいます。
私はこの銅版を、ルーアンで家族のようにお世話になっている日本人とフランス人のご夫婦 のお宅の庭の隅に埋めました。
ルーアンで観光ガイドをしている友人Sさんとの最初の出会いは10年前に僕がルーアン美術大学の入学手続きのために学校に行った時。
ルーアン美術大学は市内のサン・マクルー教会の中庭に建てられた、かつてペストが大流行した時代に建てられた納骨堂跡を校舎として使っていて、外壁には『死の舞踏』と呼ばれるレリーフや骸骨をモチーフにした木彫りが施されている。
僕が入学手続きを終えて校舎を出るとSさんが日本人観光客に『死の舞踏』の解説をしている最中だった。自分が入学するフランスの小都市の大学内で日本人を見る物珍しさと、『死の舞踏』への興味から彼女の解説を少し離れて聞いてみることにした。ニコニコと元気よく楽しそうに話す彼女の解説はとてもわかりやすく引き込まれた。その時は声をかけずに過ぎたけど、後にルーアン日仏協会のワークショップで一緒に働いたのをきっかけに親しくなる。
彼女のお宅は市内からバスで１０分ほどの場所にあり、セーヌ川を見下ろせる丘に建てられている。料理の上手いSさんには何度も食事に招待していただき、フランス人の旦那さんも交え、だんだん家族のように親しく遊びに行くようになった。
僕の両親がルーアンを訪れた際にも食事に読んでいただき、銅版を埋めた場所のすぐ近くに旦那さんが設置した小さなテラスからセーヌ川を見下ろしながら食事をした。
この銅版が土の中で眠っている間も何度もここを訪れ、美味しいご馳走をいただき、楽しくおしゃべりをし、元気をもらっている。
次はいつ遊びに行こうかな。
4:Rouen, France
Satoru Inumaru (Artist)
- In the courtyard of "Dance of Death"
My name is Satoru Inumaru. I am an artist. I live in Rouen, France.
I buried this copper plate in the corner of the garden of my friend in Rouen. They are Japanese and French couple who are like family to me.
10 years ago, I met Mrs. S, who works as a tourist guide in Rouen. It was when I visited the University of Fine Arts in Rouen to apply for admission.
This University is built in the courtyard of the Saint-Maclou church in the city. An ossuary built during the plague epidemic is now used as the university building, and the exterior walls are decorated with reliefs called "Dance of Death" and wood carvings with skeletal motifs.
When I left the school building after completing the admission procedures, Mrs. S was explaining "The Dance of Death" to a Japanese tourist. I was curious to see a Japanese person in a university in a small city in France. And because of my interest in the "Dance of Death", I decided to listen to her explanation from a distance.
Her smiling, joyful explanations were very easy to understand, and I was immediately drawn into the conversation. I didn't say anything to her at this time, but later, at a workshop of the Franco-Japanese Society of Rouen, we worked together and we became friends.
Her house is located on a hill overlooking the Seine River, about a 10-minute bus ride from the city. Ms. S. is an excellent cook and frequently invited me to dinner. Eventually her French husband joined us, and we began to visit each other more and more like a family.
When my parents visited Rouen, they also invited us. We had a wonderful dinner on a small terrace overlooking the Seine river. This terrace was set up by her husband and copperplate was buried right next to here.
I visited here many times while the copper plate has been buring in the ground, enjoying the delicious food, chatting happily, and getting a lot of energy.
I wonder when I will visit again.
